Moray Council is keen to grow its inhouse Legal Team. We are delighted to invite applications to join our very busy and friendly Team, currently looking to recruit a Solicitor for our Commercial Property Team
Across our three practice Teams the inhouse Team covers the full range of Local Government legal work including commercial property, employment, governance, regulatory and committee work, housing, education, general litigation, licensing, planning, economic regeneration and growth, health & social care for children’s and adults’ services; and all including casework and policy work. You will have a wide variety of work and a high level of responsibility from day 1. We are small teams so never a dull day! It’s rewarding, it’s learning, it’s continually developing valuable skills and experience.
This post is in our Commercial Property Team. This team covers a wide range of work providing advice and guidance to services across the Council and as a member of the team you would be involved in all property related work including council projects, disposals, acquisitions, commercial leasing, community asset transfers, public trusts and common good, community care finance and rights of way and access issues

The Individual
Some post qualifying experience would be of benefit but someone newly qualified would still be of assistance
LLB & Diploma in Legal Practice & completed traineeship i.e. fully qualified solicitor and Law Society of Scotland - Practising Certificate
Communication skills - oral and written, research/analytical skills, ability to work using initiative, IT literate, time management skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a Team
Self confident and self motivated
Experience in a legal environment - ability to manage varied workload
You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, positive outlook, ability to relate to people at all levels.
Able to form productive working relationships with various Council
officials, Elected members and External Solicitors
Capacity to make decisions under pressure
Appreciation, acceptance of and a commitment to the importance of confidentiality
Willingness to accept direction/delegation
Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service
Ability to work in a shared office
Ability to work in different offices dependent upon service requirements
Ability to work from home and to take part in secure VC and telephone conference calls as necessary
Ability to attend meetings and court in person and at short notice, as required
