Job Description

As part of the Stores team you will undertake a range of stores duties as directed by your line-manager and will include-

• Receiving goods from suppliers/carriers, which includes manually unloading supply vehicles as required.

• Check goods received and deal with any discrepancies. Input the information onto the computerised stock management system.

• Contribute to the maintenance of the stores ‘stock’ in order to support the day-to-day operation of the DLO; assisting in the compilation of orders, for goods held in store with trades staff to ensure that their stock levels are realistic and workable.

• Maintaining the data on the computerised stock management system and ensuring data is up to date and correct.

• Pick, pack and distribute stores materials for tradesmen. This is undertaken on a regular daily basis.

• Deal with enquiries from supervisors and ensure that their problems are solved to their satisfaction where possible. Referring any unsolved problems to your Line Manager as soon as practicable.

• Process ad hoc orders in a speedy and efficient manner. • Assist with stocktaking as required.

• Maintain the stores in a clean and tidy condition in order to provide a safe working environment adhering to all Health and safety procedures and promoting a Health and Safety culture within the department.

• Carry out any other reasonable requests from Management.

• Undertake occupational and vocational training as and when necessary.

• Attend safety training in order to be aware of the need for safety and security of the Stores, its stock and staff at all times.

• Undertake and develop relationships with DLO Staff to ensure delivery of an effective and efficient service, to support the day-to-day operation of the DLO whilst ensuring standards of care are not compromised.

Responsibilities

To carry out the duties of a Store Person and to contribute to the provision of an efficient and effective Stores service, with responsibility for ordering and issuing Stores materials

 

The Individual

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our Building Services team at the DLO, that directly employ over 150 multi trade and specialist support staff. Services provided include building maintenance and improvement services to the Council’s 6,300 houses, as well as reactive and planned maintenance to other Council buildings that includes schools, offices and libraries.

 

Previous experience working in a stores environment including accounting for, control and issue of stock.

3 SQA standard grades or equivalent at level 3 or above including Arithmetic / Maths*

Capable of working on own initiative or as part of a small team.

Good numeracy skills

Excellent organisational skills

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Self-motivated and self-confident

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a van/car.

Ability to move and handle equipment within the store in conjunction with moving and handling regulations

Good communication skills

Ability to be diplomatic with staff / suppliers

Good team player with the ability to contribute to effective team working

Be willing to accept direction and instruction

Able to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service
