Job Description

Applications are invited for the post of Teacher of Visual Impairment in the Deaf and Visual Education Team which is part of the Moray Inclusion, Wellbeing and Adapted Curriculum Service. We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate teacher to join our Deaf and Visual Education Team as a peripatetic Teacher of Visual Impairment. This rewarding role involves supporting learners with a diagnosed visual impairment from identification to leaving school. This will involve working across all stages from early years through to secondary school in a range of educational settings, including nurseries, schools and, where required, home environments.

Requirements

Support teaching of individuals with a visual impairment. Support and promote positive behaviour. Ensure pupil Health and Safety. To assist with the planning, development and implementation of effective strategies for pupils with a visual impairment. Advise on teaching and assessment materials with particular reference to pupils with a visual impairment. Use the results of assessment to evaluate and improve teaching, and the learning and attainment of pupils. Contribute to setting and maintaining targets for pupils as appropriate. Meet with colleagues, parents/carers, health and third sector professionals to review pupil progress and on-going additional support needs. Tutoring Bespoke specialist 1:1 teaching of braille Teaching Co-operatively with Class or Subject Teachers Providing Consultancy Support Specialist Services Contributing to Staff Development

The Individual

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council. Applications will also be considered from applicants who are provisionally registered and are able to take up unpromoted permanent positions on a temporary basis. Full time posts would also be suitable for applicants wishing to apply on a job-share or part-time basis
