North Lanarkshire Council and partners are offering young people who attend a North Lanarkshire school or reside in North Lanarkshire the opportunity to apply for a placement for summer 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable work experience within the council, NHS or one of our local North Lanarkshire-based businesses.

What is the role?
Our Summer Placements cover all sectors of work so you can be placed within a variety of settings to suit your skills and career aspirations.

As part of this placement you will have the opportunity to undertake a relevant qualification which includes CSCS training through our construction placements or an SCQF Level 4 qualification. You will be fully supported to achieve any training or qualifications.

Placements are available in the following areas:

• Clerical, Admin and Customer Service

• Assistant Sports Coach

• Early Years

• Adult Health & Social Care

• Built Environment & Construction

• NHS

What do I need?
Just yourself and your enthusiasm! We don’t ask for previous work experience or particular qualifications. During the selection process we’ll look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you’ll need to be successful; a positive approach, commitment, flexibility and willingness to learn.

You’ll need to be attending a North Lanarkshire school in S4-S6 or attending New College Lanarkshire aged 16-18 or within this age range and living in the North Lanarkshire Council area. We can only offer placements to young people who have not already undertaken a summer placement with us.

When does it start?

The summer placements will run from 23 June to 8 August 2025 to fit around school/college holidays. You are able to take some time off for a holiday during this time but we do ask that you can commit to attend for a minimum of 5 weeks during this period.

The working pattern will vary depending upon your placement but your working day should be for a maximum of 6 hours long and likely to be Monday – Friday 9am - 3pm or 10am - 4pm with a half-hour unpaid break each day (27.5 hours paid work each week).

Working here at North Lanarkshire Council

We aim to be as inclusive as possible and are committed to enabling young people the opportunity to apply for a summer placement with us. If you require any additional information or support, please contact the NL Academies’ team by email on NLAcademies@northlan.gov.uk

Some placements will require you to become a Protecting Vulnerable Group Scheme (PVG) member prior to starting this post.

This is a competitive process with a limited number of places - please answer questions fully giving as much information as you can.
