Burial Grounds Officer

£31,776 - £34,331 / £17.41 - £18.81 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)

We are looking for a Burial Grounds Officer who will manage the Council's Burial Ground Assets, ensuring they are maintained, fit for purpose and comply with appropriate legislation, including the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016. In addition the post will carry out supervision on the Council's Grounds Maintenance contract.

You will manage and review the “Burial Grounds Code of Practice” on an annual basis in consultation with the burial clerks, operational teams, community councils and elected members, ensuring the service meets its national legislation and best practice requirements.

You should be able to demonstrate effective communication skills for a range of audiences, together with a proven ability to make things happen and to work under your own guidance. Experience in process, project and programme management procedures, analysing and presenting data and the ability to demonstrate working to a high degree of accuracy are essential. Use of design or PDF-editing software would be desirable.

You will hold a qualification in Cemetery and Crematorium Management, or other relevant subject such as asset management, geography, mathematics, or other scientific discipline at SCQF level 6/7 i.e. SVQ3, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, Advanced Higher, Scottish Baccalaureate, HNC, Certificate of Higher Education or have a minimum of 3 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the person specification.

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney including the outer islands to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
