Burial Grounds Officer
Council Offices

Temporary up to 31 August 2026
£35,553 - £38,309
£19.48 - £20.99 per hour
The above amounts include Distant Islands Allowance.
This is only applicable to current Orkney Islands Council employees.
You will be reporting to Team Manager Roads Support.
Your working pattern is Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.
The purpose of this role is to manage the Council’s Burial Ground Assets, ensuring that they are maintained, fit for purpose, and comply with appropriate legislation, including the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016. In addition, the post will carry out supervision on the Council’s Grounds Maintenance contract.
You will manage and review the Burial Grounds Management Plan on an annual basis in consultation with the burial clerks, operational teams, community councils and elected members, ensuring the service meets its national legislation and best practice requirements.
Experience in process, project, and programme management procedures, analysing and presenting data and the ability to demonstrate working to a high degree of accuracy are essential.

You must be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney including the outer islands.
