Class Teacher, Eday Primary School
35 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
Temporary up to 3 July 2024 initially, with possible extension to August 2025
Monday to Friday, Term Time
Suitable candidates are sought for the above temporary teaching post. Although the vacancy is advertised as 35 hours per week, there is a degree of flexibility which can be applied to the working pattern, which can be discussed with the Headteacher.
Eday Primary School currently has 11 children, covering every class from Primary one to Primary seven, and with an Early Years base with two staff and three pupils. The children are particularly keen on outdoor learning and music, and, although there is such a wide range of ages, the children play very well together.
The School and Early years areas are separate, although the groups spend time in each area throughout the day. There is also 20 hours of classroom support staff, as well as a Cook and a Janitor.
Transport to the island of Eday from elsewhere in Orkney can take some time, and therefore accommodation can be provided for the successful candidate. This will be in the spare room of the adjoining schoolhouse, which is very warm, with all mod cons. The secondment does not include accommodation or travel costs.
Applicants should be enthusiastic and show a commitment and desire to continually improve the quality of learning and teaching and must be registered, or in the process of registering, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
The post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
Prospective applicants are invited to discuss the posts by contacting Head Teacher, Rona Humphreys, any weekday after 3pm, by telephone on 01857 622227, or by e-mail to rona.humphreys@glow.orkneyschools.org.uk
The salary applicable is based on the SNCT Salary Tables plus Remote Islands Allowance.
Closing Date: Sunday 10 March 2024
Please note that interview and relocation expenses will be paid for this post, in accordance with Council policy.
