• Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of people living in Orkney?
• Do you have administration skills and enjoy working as part of a team?
• Would you like to work for an organisation where there are opportunities for personal development?

If the answer to the above is yes, please keep reading as we would love to hear from you.

The Community Council Liaison Assistant is an exciting role within Orkney Islands Council’s Democratic Services and Communications service, where the successful applicant will be a valued member of our team which works very closely with Orkney’s community councils. This diverse role involves community engagement, project management and providing business support to Community Councils.

As well as offering a wide range of support to Community Councils this role involves working closely with other community groups, OIC services and partner agencies.
Regular liaison with Senior Council Officers, OIC Councillors and a wide range of community stakeholders is a key element to the role. You must be resourceful, enthusiastic and able to demonstrate strong communication and administration skills.
You will need to be self-motivated, highly organised with a good eye for detail, and comfortable with processing/documenting financial transactions. A knowledge of working with voluntary groups would be advantageous but not essential. This would suit someone that has an interest in, and knowledge of, Orkney communities and local democracy.

Please note that attending community council meetings across Orkney in the evening will be required as part of this role (all expenses will be covered).

You should either have a minimum of three years experiences in a similar role or hold a qualification at SCQF 6/7, i.e., SVQ3, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, Advanced Higher, Scottish Baccalaureate, HNC or Certificate of Higher Education in Business Studies or Administration.

Applicants should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to membership of Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.
