Kirkwall Grammar School is looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Depute Head Teacher due to the retirement of the incumbent teacher.

The post holder will provide strategic leadership, vision and direction for Pupil Support at Kirkwall Grammar School, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Principal Teachers, particularly those in Guidance and Support for Learning. As such, the successful candidate will be expected to have significant leadership experience including a proven track record of leading and/or contributing to the development of related pupil services.

The successful candidate will have a lead role in Child Protection at Kirkwall Grammar School and should have a thorough knowledge of Getting it Right for Every Child, its principles and practice.

Orkney lies approximately nine miles north of the Scottish mainland and is home to the smallest local authority in Scotland, with around 22,000 residents.

Kirkwall Grammar School is one of two six-year secondary schools in Orkney, with a catchment area covering the town of Kirkwall, the East Mainland and many of the outer isles. The current school roll is 860 pupils.

Almost all secondary aged pupils with additional support needs in the county attend their local community school. Kirkwall Grammar School however is additionally and specifically resourced to meet the needs of young people with the most complex needs.

Kirkwall Grammar School is a state-of-the-art building, which is both welcoming and visually stunning, sitting in the heart of Kirkwall. Within the campus is the Papdale Halls of Residence, which accommodates students from the outer isles during the week.

Salary is currently based on Point 6 of the HT/DHT spine of the SNCT Salary Tables, plus an Islands Allowance.  We offer a generous relocation package.
