You will be reporting to the Harbour Master.
Your working pattern is 0830-1700 Monday to Thursday and 0830-1630 on Friday. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.
As the Statutory Harbour Authority for 29 piers and harbours located throughout the Orkney archipelago, including the strategically important Scapa Flow, Orkney Islands Council and its Marine Services section exercises jurisdiction over a diverse and challenging range of harbours and marine operations. This diversity of marine business in Orkney is unique, ranging from oil and gas support to marine renewables, from the UK’s most popular cruise ship destination to the provision of lifeline ferry services to the outlying regions of Orkney and mainline ferry services to the Scottish mainland and from complex oil and gas Ship to Ship operations to the ownership of a number of increasingly busy marinas. The post of Deputy Harbour Master Piers, Infrastructure and VTS is crucial to the safe and efficient operation of the harbour area and to the on-going operational and logistical support to this investment.
The Deputy Harbour Master Piers, Infrastructure and VTS will deputise for the Harbour Master as and when required and will be responsible to them for all operational matters relating to all harbours, piers and tugs and launches, including visiting vessels coming under the jurisdiction or control of the Harbour Authority. You will be required to board vessels at sea and must be medically fit to do so. You will also act as Depute Oil Pollution Officer and Port Facility Security Officer, for which you will be required to achieve an enhanced security clearance. As part of the ports emergency response organisation and in order to respond to Duty Harbour Master calls 24/7 when on duty, you will be required to be resident within a reasonable distance of the Harbour Authority Building, Scapa.
