Early Years Practitioner in Training (2 Posts)
Various Nurseries (Mainland locations)
21 hours per week, 50 weeks
Temporary to 30 June 2028
£29,257 - £29,476 pro rata
£16.03 - £16.15 per hour
The above amounts include Distant Islands Allowance.
You will be reporting to the Early Learning and Childcare Manager.
Your working pattern is Monday to Friday. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.
The purpose of this role is to deliver a high quality Early Learning and Childcare service which promotes the development of young children and their families.
We have opportunities for people who have a passion for working with young children and would like to grow their skills. We have a number of trainee posts in a variety of different nursery settings where you will undertake funded training while you work. We would consider applications from those who wish to work part time.
You will be supported to develop your practice in the nursery and will attend Orkney College to undertake your SVQ3 (Children and Young People). As a trainee you will be supported by experienced practitioners in the team and will take on more responsibility as you develop in your role. By the end of the year, you will be ready to apply for qualified practitioner posts.
We are looking for warm and caring people with a real interest in playing with and supporting young children as they grow and develop. You do not have to have had experience in a nursery, but in your application, please do tell us about any experience you have had with children and why you would like to be considered for the post.
The necessary qualification, experience and skills required for this role are, a good general standard of literacy and numeracy and a willingness to achieve a recognised qualification to enable full registration with SSSC, as a Practitioner (Day Care of Children). Registration with the SSSC as a Practitioner (Day Care of Children) within 3 months of appointment. Show an understanding of the needs of young children and how to respond to them, and have the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
