Economic Development Manager

£40,608 - £43,054 / £44,295 - £46,850 (including Distant Islands Allowance) depending on qualifications and experience

This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive contribution to Orkney’s economy and business community. You will lead a team responsible for the delivery of economic development services including strategic economic planning, business development support (including key sectors), supporting community development and management of the Business Gateway. As Economic Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic economic policy and making recommendations on specific strategic and policy matters.

The ability to influence across organisational and agency boundaries is essential, as is experience and a sound knowledge of project planning and implementation.

The successful candidate with be highly motivated with the ability to work on their own initiative and as a leader of a team.

A good working knowledge and experience of a range of internal and external IT systems including database and financial systems is essential.

Educated to SVQ4, HND, general degree level in business studies or community development is essential or, where this is not held, you should have a minimum of 5 years previous recent experience.

The successful applicant will be placed on the salary range according to relevant qualifications and experience.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
