• Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of people living in Orkney?
• Do you have administration skills and like to work as part of a team?
• Would you like to work for an organisation where there are opportunities for personal development?

If the answer to the above is yes, please keep reading as we would love to hear from you.

The Elected Members Support Officer is an exciting role within Orkney Islands Council’s Democratic Services department, where the successful applicant will be a highly valued member of our team which works very closely with Orkney's Elected Members.
As well as offering a wide range of support to all Elected Members, this role will particularly involve working closely with the Council Leader, Deputy Leader and Convener.

You will need to be self-motivated, highly organised with a good eye for detail, and a knowledge of working with voluntary groups would be advantageous but not essential. This would suit someone that has an interest in Orkney communities and local democracy.

This role will support, where required, Civic Events and the Community Councils team within Democratic Services.

You will ideally already have experience of working as an effective team member within an administration team, have excellent administration and computer skills, ideally using Microsoft Office applications. In all cases you will need to be able to work under pressure to strict deadlines, use your own initiative, maintain confidentiality and be able to work unsupervised. We are looking for a good communicator and with excellent organisational skills as you will be part of a team liaising with a wide range of customers.

You should hold a qualification at SCQF 6/7 i.e., SVQ3, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, Advanced Higher, Scottish Baccalaureate, HNC, Certificate of Higher Education or, where the essential qualification is not held, a minimum of 3 years’ experience of working in a relevant administrative role is required.

This post is subject to Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.

Prospective applicants are invited to discuss the post by contacting Ross Cunningham, Service Manager, Democratic Services and Communications, telephone 07887 534 126 or by email ross.cunningham@orkney.gov.uk

Closing Date: Sunday 7 July 2024
