£33,382 - £35,697 / £17.30 - £18.50 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)
We are looking for a Historic Buildings Technician to assist the Team Leader Heritage in maintaining the Listed Buildings and sites within the Council’s remit.
This is an exciting role which will assist the Council in ensuring it maintains its traditional buildings such as St. Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall and Stromness Town Halls, Orkney Museum, Kirbuster Farm Museum and the main OIC offices.
The Council is at the cusp of a busy period of works including a proposed 10-year plan of renovation works of the Cathedral and major conservation works to the other Listed Buildings.
You will work across a range of teams, services and communities to bring real, positive change to the maintenance of these culturally and socially important assets.
You should have a relevant Stonemason qualification at SCQF 6/7, i.e. SVQ3/NVQ3 OR, where this is not held, you should have a minimum of 3 years previous relevant experience as detailed below.
You should have previous experience of working on historic buildings and experience in the technical skills required to maintain, repair and replace stonework on traditional sandstone ‘A Listed Buildings’.
This post is subject to Level 1 Disclosure Scotland clearance.
You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
