We are seeking an HR Adviser to join our close-knit team of HR professionals who provide a comprehensive generalist HR service across the Council.
If you are looking to take the next step in your career or are an already established and experienced HR practitioner, this would be a great opportunity for you. You would be joining our team at an exciting juncture as our function looks to embed new and streamlined ways of working, support with service redesign, workforce planning and many other initiatives under the Council’s People Plan.
We require an individual who is able to work effectively with a range of stakeholders and is able to translate HR policy and best practice into realistic and pragmatic solutions that meet the needs of the Council.
If successful, you would become actively involved in a range of employee relations and generalist HR work including recruitment and selection, case management, sickness absence and advising on terms and conditions of employment as well as contributing to the delivery of the Council People Plan priorities.
You will be able to work as part of a small and busy team within a fast paced environment. You must be able to prioritise your own workload and have a customer focused approach and should be able to demonstrate knowledge of current employment legislation and how this impacts the workplace. You should also have experience of providing HR related advice and guidance.
The minimum knowledge required for this role can be evidenced by either:
For appointment at Grade F, holding an SVQ3, or equivalent SCQF 6/7 in a relevant subject, or, having a minimum of 3 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the Skills and Requirements section of the Job Pack.
For appointment at/progression to Grade G, holding an SVQ 4 or equivalent (SCQF8) level qualification in in a relevant subject, and, Associate Membership of the CIPD or ability to be assessed as such against the membership criteria.
You should have the ability to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
