We are looking for two enthusiastic and skilled music teachers who are committed to improvement and excellence.
You will be joining our team of itinerant music teachers, who teach all P1-7 classes in our eighteen primary schools on the Orkney Mainland, Inner and Outer Isles, and S1-4 classes (including National 4/5) in our three Junior High Schools.
The 0.6 FTE temporary post to 4 July 2025 is scheduled for Wednesday to Friday and involves teaching at one mainland mainstream primary school with additional resourcing to support pupils with a wide variety of learning needs. There are eight mainstream classes and five ASN classes along with two school choirs.
The 0.6 FTE maternity cover to 1 December 2025 is also currently timetabled Wednesday to Friday and comprises one day of violin / viola tuition and two days of whole class music teaching at two mainland primary schools and one inner island primary school, which is reached by ferry. Applications are welcome for the 0.4 FTE music teaching portion of this post from non-string playing music teachers.
The Itinerant Music Team is part of the wider Expressive Arts Team which also includes Drama, Art, Physical Education, Instrumental Music Instruction and Youth Music Initiative projects.
The successful candidates will be responsible for providing a high standard of effective teaching and learning in music, in line with the requirements of Curriculum for Excellence, and developing and maintaining a safe and happy learning environment and taking an active part in a positive learning community.
