A relief position has arisen within the Customer Services team to provide cover at our service points, mainly at the Council Offices in Kirkwall and occasionally at the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness, which includes library services.

As a first point of contact, you will be dealing with enquiries from the public, over the phone in our contact centre, by email, online and face to face at our reception desks. You will be required to accurately process a variety of requests on behalf of various Council services. Duties will include the collection and reconciliation of income paid to the Council, the recording of customer requests and housing repairs and the processing of blue badge applications and mail.

You should have a relevant educational qualification at SCQF level 5 (e.g. SVQ 2) in business administration or customer service or, where you do not hold the essential qualification, have at least 2 years’ experience working in a customer focused administrative role. You should have wide experience in the use of computerised systems, including Microsoft Office packages.

This relief role may also be suitable for any students currently studying for an administrative or business qualification or any existing Council employees who work part-time. It is essential that you are flexible as you will be required to cover for holidays and sickness, often at short notice.

If you really enjoy working with the public and you like being part of a team, we would love to hear from you.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the service.

This post is subject to Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Catherine Foubister, Customer Services Manager on 01856 873535, ext. 2919.

Closing Date: Sunday 16 April 2023

Please note that interview expenses are not payable for this post.
