Road Support Summer Student

35 hours per week
Temporary seasonal post up to 2 June 2026, working May to October
£24,440 - £24,677 / £13.39 - £13.52 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)

We are looking for a Summer Student to join an established roads team within Neighbourhood Services and Infrastructure.

You will, under supervision, assist the Roads Support team in the delivery of a full range of services in support of the Council as Roads Authority including collection and analysis of data relating to road asset condition, preparation of drawings, traffic surveys and data collection, preparation of reports and other such general duties within Roads and Grounds as may be required by the Manager and the Head of Service.

You will undertake duties commensurate with experience and in line with training goals.

You should hold a qualification at SCQF 6/7 i.e., SVQ3, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, Advanced Higher, Scottish Baccalaureate, HNC, Certificate of Higher Education or, where this is not held, you should have a minimum of 3 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the experience section of this person specification

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
