Two enthusiastic and experienced persons are required to become a member of the Structures Section of the Structures Team which is primarily responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the Council’s bridge stock of over 972 bridges and other roads related structures. This role will be primarily focussed on delivery of the Structures Team Capital works programme.

Your main duties will involve progressing the Structures Team Capital works programme. This will involve procuring and managing Consultants and Contractors workload and also carrying out in-house structural design and assessment as necessary. Your duties will involve preparing works orders, contract documentation, procurement of works, and supervising works on site. You will also be responsible for monitoring and updating the Structures Capital Budgets as required. You should have experience in bridge maintenance design and construction processes and a working knowledge of all relevant standards. Experience in procurement and supervision of new bridges & bridge maintenance and strengthening works is essential. You should have knowledge of SEPA & SNH regulatory requirements in relation to bridge works. You should also have experience in the NEC ECC Forms of Contract. Also the various Standards involved in relation to bridgeworks Technical Approvals, the management of substandard structures, bridge design and assessment. Experience of computer based structures design packages and knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation are advantageous.

The Individual

You should have a degree in Civil Engineering (or similar), or be educated to HND/SVQ Level 4 in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, and able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience, and have good financial awareness and communication skills. Ideally you will have, or be working towards attaining, Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status and be a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (or similar). A full UK driving licence is essential.
