We have a vacancy for a Financial Assessment Officer, within the Assessment & Charging Team.

This post works with some of our most vulnerable citizens; helping them to maximise their income, ensuring they are being charged correctly for any social care and support they are receiving and supporting them and their families through the complexities of paying for their care.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Undertaking financial assessments for people receiving chargeable social care services.
  • Supporting vulnerable citizens to maximise income and ensure correct charges are applied.
  • Providing advice and guidance to individuals and families regarding care charges.
  • Carrying out assessments via phone or in person.

This post will also support the piloting and implementation of a new end‑to‑end process, overseeing the financial assessment from initial contact through to customer invoicing as part of the customer journey.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience of working in a finance environment or experience of maximising the incomes of vulnerable people.
  • Knowledge of Local Authority charging policies.
  • Experience of advocating on behalf of vulnerable people with a person-centred and proactive approach.
  • Awareness of the qualifying conditions for state benefits.
  • Must be able to read and retain written information relevant to the legislation, guidelines and policies relating to the client groups
  • Must be self-motivated, literate, numerate and able to deal effectively with members of the public in person and on the telephone
  • Ability to use IT programmes and packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with others.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • Experience working with the public and handling sensitive information.
  • You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
