Main Purpose of the Role

Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We currently have the following opportunity:

Licensing Assistant - PKC13514
£27,836 - £30,295
2 High Street, Perth

Please note: Only existing employees of Perth & Kinross Council may apply.

An opportunity has arisen for a Licensing Assistant to join the Licensing Department to provide administrative support and assistance to fellow Licensing Assistants as well as Licensing Officers, all of whom deal with a variety of licences for businesses and individuals. These licences include taxi, entertainment, alcohol, short-term holiday lets licences, and more.

You will have a chance to work with the various licensing areas in updating processes and procedures, particularly as we transition to a new software system.  You also will be providing guidance and supporting customers through the licensing process.  Full training on licensing processes and procedures will be provided.

You will be required to liaise with applicants, consultees, other interested parties and other staff involved in the licensing process on a daily basis, resolving issues with applications and being a first point of contact for licensees and the public. Courtesy and excellent customer service skills are therefore required, as is the ability to stay calm under pressure.

A willingness to be flexible is also needed, as this role will involve working across various parts of the licensing team.

While the department is busy and the work can be varied, the position is situated in a team that is very supportive, cohesive and enjoys collaborative working. Everyone actively works hard to encourage all individual members to achieve personal success in their roles.

We are looking for someone who is committed, motivated and enjoys working at a fast pace. No day is the same in Licensing so flexibility, adaptability and a positive outlook are also essential qualities.

Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorship for this post.

Skills & Experience Required

This is a good opportunity for an individual who has very good administrative and IT capabilities, as well as experience working in a busy office environment.

You will need to have experience with data input and processing and be familiar with Microsoft applications.

The role will involve assessing applications and submissions for accuracy and completeness, and processing those applications, so accuracy and attention to detail is essential.  You will also be required to assist with the transition to a new software system.  In that regard, experience in field forms, formatting and styles would be advantageous.

You will always work as part of the greater team but also must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to organise and prioritise your daily work load while considering the needs of other team members.

Excellent customer service skills and experience dealing with the public is a requirement. Having experience with circumstances where you have had to have difficult or challenging conversations is a bonus.

Solid verbal and written communication skills are essential to be able to engage with members of the public, other Council departments, outside stakeholders and other team members.
