Job Purpose
Reporting to the Street Lighting Superintendent you will be responsible for identifying, programming, designing and ensuring the successful completion of all street lighting and illuminated sign maintenance works.
You will assist in the supervision of new works carried out by Tayside Contracts, external contractors and private developers. You will also assist the Street Lighting Manager in monitoring the section’s performance, profitability and levels of service.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
The successful post holder will assist in undertaking a range of duties and responsibilities associated with all aspects of workload within the Street Lighting Partnership including deputising for the Lighting Superintendent as required.
You will have flexibility to provide support across the Street Lighting Partnership where the needs and demands require this to improve resilience, efficiency, effectiveness as we work towards common outcomes.
Supervising and managing routine maintenance works via asset management system. Ensure the programme of works and inspections complies with relevant legislation.
Preparing a prioritised list of annual and future years street lighting planned maintenance works based on inspections and interrogation of computerised asset management system. Preparing lighting and electrical designs for the works identified.
Supervising the construction of planned maintenance works, whether by Tayside Contracts or external contractors, ensuring Specifications, Codes of Practice and Health & Safety and Electrical legislation are adhered to.
Providing electrical advice to other Council services, outside bodies, the public and community representatives and attend meetings as required.
Liaising with Scottish & Southern Energy for new connections, faults and planned maintenance. Programme and supervise SSE works on site as required.
The post holder will assist in undertaking a range of duties and responsibilities associated with all aspects of workload within the Roads Service.

Skills & Experience Required
Experience in the design of Street Lighting schemes including lighting and electrical designs.
Experience of supervising routine maintenance programmes for street lighting and illuminated signs via asset management system.
Experience of preparing and Supervising planned maintenance programmes based on inspections and interrogation of asset management system.
Experience of providing electrical advice to other Council services, outside bodies, the public and community representatives.
Experience of working with Scottish & Southern Energy for new connections, faults and planned maintenance.
Ability to work within small team and communicate effectively with colleagues, other Council services, outside bodies, the public and community representatives.
Skills (Specialist)
- Knowledge of Client/Designer duties under CDM Regulations.
- Knowledge of Street Lighting design legislation including BS 5489.
- Knowledge of lighting systems and associated cable networks.
- Knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations BS7671.
- Knowledge of New Roads & Street Works Act 1991.
You must have HNC in Electrical Engineering.
You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
