Perth & Kinross Council aims to work with the residents of the Perth & Kinross area to reduce the volume of waste going to landfill and offer recycling opportunities wherever possible.

You will be responsible for day to day operation of a busy transfer station and recycling centre that includes: Driver checks and safe operation of any vehicle/equipment under your control, the daily Security of the transfer station and site, ensuring staff and visitors adhere to site rules and health and safety requirements and completion of relevant daily paperwork.

As the Plant Operator you will provide an invaluable service to the residents of the area, ensuring that all waste deposited in Blairgowrie is dealt with as quickly as possible.

Your primary role will be to drive/operate a Manitou telehandler, therefore a CE (LGV) driving Licence is essential, with a current plant operator’s certificate being desirable.

You will operate primarily in Blairgowrie and the surrounding area.

You will be required to dealing with household waste collections deposited by the local refuse crews. Compliance with Communities safe system of work for Plant Operator is essential (copies available on request).

As the LGV driver you must adhere to appropriate driving guidelines - driver's daily checks, accidents procedure and driver’s procedures. Adherence to Health and Safety at Work Legislation and appropriate codes of Practice.

Other tasks involved with this post will be discussed at the interview to assist with suitability.

The shift pattern for this post will be 36 hours per week, working Monday to Thursday.

There may be a requirement for you to be available to work overtime.

You may also be included in the standby rota and will be available to work additional hours, outside normal working hours. Some works are planned in advance, but some may be unforeseen, in which case short term availability may be required at short notice.

Skills & Experience Required

To be successful, you must have knowledge of the use of plant (specifically Manitou).

A Cat CE licence is essential to this post.  

You will be aware of Road Transport Regulations, you will be able to carry out the physical demands of the job, and as a representative of the Council, you will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the public as well as colleagues. 

You will bring a positive energy; have the ability to work well as part of a team.

You will have a full driving licence, enabling you to drive other vehicles, as necessary.

You will be aware of Health & Safety legislation, you will have effective visual skills with the ability to ensure the safety of other road users and pedestrians.

You will have the ability to carry out vehicle inspections, ensuring that your vehicle is safe to drive and meets all legal requirements.

You will have the ability to operate and navigate in and around the Perth & Kinross area.
