Main Purpose of the Role

Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We currently have the following opportunity:

Principal Teacher of Support 0.87FTE (Fixed Term until 16 August 2026) - PKC13549
£57,360 (pro-rata)
Navigate, Perth

Please note: Only existing employees of Perth & Kinross Council may apply.

Navigate is an off-site education service for secondary-aged young people who experience social, emotional and/or behaviour challenges.

We are looking for a Principal Teacher to join the team of teachers, senior social care officers, pupil support assistants and admin.

Our service currently has 36 young people on the books. Young people will, ideally, have a shared placement between Navigate and their mainstream school.

As our Principal Teacher, you will lead a small, skilled team of Teachers and Pupil Support Assistants, ensuring high-quality learning experiences that meet individual needs and promote wellbeing, independence, and achievement.

Our Principal Teacher will teach part of the week, and have time out of the classroom to support the staff to ensure the needs of all children in the Intensive Support Provision (ISP) are being met.

You will work with the Centre Leader to plan the improvement priorities for the ISP and lead the quality assurance activities.

Our Principal Teacher will be required to work closely with the Centre Leader, Senior Social Care Officers, Pupil Support Assistants, families, and partner agencies to promote inclusion.

You will be responsible for leading the improvement planning to improve outcomes for our young people through individual planning and target setting.

Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorship for this post.

Skills & Experience Required

Navigate needs an experienced, positive and reflective teacher who is committed to supporting young people with a range of additional support needs including young people who have experienced trauma, as well as those with ADHD, social and communication difficulties, and sensory difficulties.

We are looking for a positive and creative person who will lead on curriculum planning, promote a culture of high but realistic achievement, and help us to take the next steps in our service development.

A degree in primary or secondary education is essential, with additional experience and/or qualification in ASN would be desirable.

You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post may require you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.

Working at Perth & Kinross Council

We have a vision of a confident and ambitious Perth and Kinross, to which everyone can contribute and all can share.

In your application, and should you be invited to interview, you will be asked to describe situations that support the criteria required in the role and which also demonstrate our values and behaviours.
