Technician, Structures Team - PKC010003

An enthusiastic and experienced person is required to become a member of the Structures Team which is primarily responsible for the inspection and maintenance of Perth & Kinross Council’s bridge stock of 1123 bridges and other road related structures.

As a minimum, you must have gained an HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).

This post is currently homeworking due to the pandemic.  Perth & Kinross Council is currently progressing with a hybrid working model offering access to office working on some days/when required.  Initially this is on a temporary basis with longer term options becoming available in future.  We are committed to being a more inclusive employer, please contact the recruiting manager to discuss any individual circumstances with the recruiting manager, discuss at interview or if you prefer, after any conditional offer is made,  to ensure we can consider any reasonable adjustments.   

You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.

The Individual

Your main duties will involve design and preparing works orders and contract documentation, procurement of works and supervision of road bridge and retaining wall works on site. 

You will have good financial awareness and communication skills and be responsible for monitoring and updating the Structures Team capital and revenue budgets as required.  

You will be expected to carry out structural design as necessary, and monitor and approve Abnormal Indivisible Load requests as and when required.

You will also be expected to carry out Special & Safety Inspections on bridges and retaining walls when necessary, and produce options for remedial works.
