Role Purpose

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority, and under the direction of the Head Teacher, the duties of the Depute Head Teacher are to undertake such tasks as are required to support the leadership, management and continuous improvement of the school, including:

• Supporting the Head Teacher in providing strategic leadership and operational management across the school

• Leading on aspects of school improvement planning, self-evaluation and quality assurance

• Promoting high quality learning, teaching and assessment across all curricular areas

• Using evidence, attainment data and professional judgement to support improvement in learner outcomes

• Leading and managing staff, including supporting professional learning, development and review

• Promoting inclusive practice, equity and the wellbeing of all learners

• Supporting positive relationships, behaviour and attendance across the school community

• Working in partnership with parents/carers, partner agencies and the wider community

• Contributing to curriculum design and delivery in line with Curriculum for Excellence and national expectations

• Supporting safeguarding and child protection arrangements and promoting the health, welfare and safety of pupils

• Assisting with school timetabling, staffing, policies and other operational matters as required

• Deputising for the Head Teacher where required

• Contributing to the wider life and ethos of the school

Essential

• A teaching qualification recognised in Scotland

• Full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland

• Evidence of relevant leadership experience in a secondary school setting
