Role Purpose

An exciting opportunity has become available to join Scottish Borders Council as a Graduate Apprentice which will put you on the first rung of an employment pathway with an employer that is committed to your personal development and growth within the organisation.

There are two roles available, one in each discipline of a Graduate Apprenticeship Qualification.

GA Business Management - https://apprenticeships.scot/graduate-apprenticeships/business-management-project-management/individual

GA Data Science - https://apprenticeships.scot/graduate-apprenticeships/data-science/individual

These qualifications are a 4 year degree programme which is completed alongside the candidates core job role within the organisation, with flexible day release.

The role begins as a Grade 5 placement as a Graduate Apprentice Project Support Officer with guaranteed progression to a Grade 7 Project Support Officer post on successful completion of Year 2 of the qualification, and the associated competency framework.

Completion of the four year degree programme allows the candidate opportunity to continue to progress and develop within the Council in their areas of interest.

Graduate Apprenticeships (GA) offer candidates the chance of paid employment combined with the opportunity to do training relevant to the occupational area while achieving the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications that help kick-start a career without having to study full-time. GA's include school and college leavers, or those who want to take the next step in their career journey.

As this is an apprentice post the job holder will be required to work in various areas and departments throughout the organisation to develop skills, knowledge and experience. This will be via on the job training and formal training sessions to establish knowledge and understanding.

As part of the apprenticeship you will be required to engage with a training provider to obtain the desired qualification of Honours Degree in the chosen subject, and have regular meetings with the supervisor and/or assessor.

Scottish Borders Council already employees a number of Graduate Apprentices in a range of disciplines, and there will be opportunity to learn from and be supported by your peers, as well as a dedicated mentor assigned to you for the duration of your course.
