Role Purpose

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Subject to the policies of the campus and the council the duties of principal teachers are to perform such tasks as the headteacher shall direct. These should give reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to:

1. Deliver high-quality learning and teaching within assigned curriculum areas, including assessment, reporting and preparation of pupils for examinations.

2. Lead pastoral care for an allocated S1–S6 cohort, promoting wellbeing, inclusion, attainment, achievement and positive post-school destinations.

3. Monitor attendance, behaviour, wellbeing and attainment using data to identify needs, plan interventions and improve outcomes.

4. Provide advice, guidance and support to learners and families, maintaining accurate records in line with school and local authority procedures.

5. Lead and contribute to staged intervention and multi-agency meetings, ensuring coordinated support for learners and families.

6. Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and partner agencies to remove barriers to learning and improve outcomes.

7. Lead and quality assure pastoral care and the S1–S6 PSE programme, ensuring provision reflects learner voice, local context and national priorities.

8. Provide leadership, support and professional guidance to colleagues, contributing to effective teamwork and continuous improvement.

9. Contribute to curriculum development, self-evaluation, quality assurance and improvement planning to raise attainment, achievement and wellbeing.
