Role Purpose

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

The management and maintenance of resources on a daily basis including:-

• Physical movement of apparatus within departments

• Notifying the Principal Teacher of problems due to resource shortages

• Preparing chemicals to defined specifications for classroom use

• Setting up and clearing away of equipment

• Maintain, clean and carry out minor repairs to equipment

• Fault finding and repair of electrical and mechanical apparatus

• Designing and constructing apparatus for a given use

Ordering and stock control including:-

• Maintaining an inventory of chemicals and apparatus in the Science department

• Research and purchase of consumable materials and spare parts within agreed budgets (including for the repair and maintenance of equipment)

• Receiving and checking delivery notes/invoices/credit notes

To research, assist and, where appropriate, advise on the relevant resources for teaching staff including:-

• Researching the use of new apparatus, including specialised items

• Checking the suitability of resource specification against purpose

• Sourcing and collection of biological specimens as and when required

• Carrying out preliminary investigations of new techniques

HNC or HND in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
