Role Purpose

Scottish Borders Council is currently advertising a part-time position for a Self-Directed Support (SDS) / Carers Lead Officer, working 14 hours per week. This post will be for 12 months on a temporary contract with the potential to be extended. This role is focused on supporting carers and promoting self-directed support initiatives across the Local Authority. The SDS / Carer Lead Officer will demonstrate a commitment to improving personalisation, empowering service users, and refining how care and support are delivered.

This 14-hour SDS / Carers Lead Officer post is designed to complement an existing 21-hour role, to form a collaborative team structure.

The two Officers may divide tasks such as policy development, carer engagement, and SDS implementation. Alternatively, one post might focus more on strategic planning, while the other handles operational delivery or stakeholder engagement. It is anticipated that two perspectives and skill sets will enhance service delivery and  enrich decision-making and innovation.

As a team, the SDS/ Carers Leads will offer broader coverage across the week while maintaining consistency for individuals.

If you're considering applying or working with this team, it’s a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic and collaborative approach to improving SDS and Carer support.
