Role Purpose
We are seeking a committed Senior Social Worker to join our Children & Families Long‑Term Team (West), based from Peebles with access to Galashiels office. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills while making a meaningful difference to the lives of children, young people and families across the Scottish Borders.
You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, effective and compassionate delivery of statutory social work services. You will support the Team Manager with day‑to‑day operations, provide practice leadership to colleagues, and contribute to a positive, reflective and supportive team environment. Our West team works closely across both office bases, offering a collaborative and flexible working culture where professional curiosity and shared learning are genuinely valued.
You will hold a complex caseload, working with children subject to child protection registration, Looked After Children, and those involved in permanence planning. You will work confidently within Child Protection Procedures and the Children’s Hearing System, ensuring high‑quality assessment, planning and risk management. The role also includes leading and line managing professional staff, supporting consistent standards of practice and contributing to service development.
We are looking for someone who brings professional integrity, credibility and a naturally positive, self‑motivated approach. You will be approachable, inclusive and committed to delivering a high‑quality, relationship‑based service.
In the Children & Families Long‑Term Team, you will be welcomed into a warm, supportive and experienced group of practitioners who work collaboratively across both Peebles and Galashiels. We champion reflective practice, shared learning and a culture where your ideas are encouraged and your professional judgement is trusted. This Senior Social Worker role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced social worker who is ready to broaden their skills and take on greater responsibility. You will have the chance to develop leadership experience, contribute to service improvement and influence practice across the team, all while being supported by a skilled management structure. With access to high quality training, regular supervision and opportunities to shape the direction of the service, this is a role where you can grow and make a lasting difference.
