Role Purpose

This post is a unique and exciting opportunity to work as a peripatetic Teacher of the Deaf within Scottish Borders Council's new Targeted Pupil Support Team. The successful candidate will play a significant role in supporting children and young people who are deaf or have hearing impairments across schools within the Scottish Borders, working in partnership with schools, families and partner agencies to promote inclusion, accessibility and positive outcomes for learners. The successful candidate will become a member of the wider Targeted Pupil Support Team that aims to strengthen inclusive practice, build capacity within schools and ensure children and young people can access high-quality learning experiences within their local school community. The successful post holder will: • Provide specialist assessment, advice and support for children and young people who are deaf or have hearing impairments. • Work collaboratively with schools to remove barriers to learning and participation. • Support staff to develop confidence and skills in meeting the needs of deaf learners through coaching, consultation and professional learning. • Advise on communication, accessibility, technology and learning environments. • Contribute to planning, reviewing and evaluating targeted interventions and supports. • Work in partnership with families and multi-agency colleagues to ensure coordinated and effective support. •Support implementation of local and national guidance relating to inclusion, accessibility and additional support needs. • Contribute to authority-wide developments that improve outcomes for children and young people with sensory needs. Essential

• Experience or formal qualification in sign language eg BSL/SSE/SEE/English, lip speaking, notetaking and/or language modification. • A commitment to work towards formal qualification in BSL • Having well developed, receptive and expressive skills. Driving Licence: A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post. * If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a drivers licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability.
