An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced or aspiring Executive Manager to lead our Human Resources team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and motivated strategic thinker, with proven collaborative leadership skills, who can inspire and lead our  HR Service and support delivery of the Council’s Corporate Plan (Our Ambition).

As successful candidate, you will be central to achieving customer focussed, effective and efficient delivery of the Council’s Workforce Strategy and Plan, HR service improvement and positive outcomes for our workforce.

Shetland Islands Council is the islands’ biggest employer and offers a range of roles in every part of the isles.  This position therefore provides an opportunity to lead a team central to the successful appointment, development and retention of the Council workforce and to make a real and positive impact in the local community.

  • Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,541 per annum (pro rata)
  • Permanent Full Time post for 37.0 Hours per Week , 52.18 weeks per year 
  • Politically Restricted Post - this post is designated under the terms of the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009, and the postholder is restricted as to the undertaking of political activity
  • The postholder will act as lead signatory for Shetland Islands Council for Disclosure Scotland. Disclosure Scotland will carry out checks to determine suitability to have access to Disclosure information, as part of the initial registration process, and on an ongoing basis to ensure suitability. 
  • A relocation package does apply to this post
  • We will pay interview expenses from within the UK
  • We are happy to talk flexible working
  • Interviews are expected to be held on Monday 26th of June
