Advertisement Details

The HR Adviser, as a member of the HR Policy and Employment Support team, assists in the provision of a full generalist Human Resource support and advice service to elected Members, managers and employees.  Reporting to a Senior HR Adviser, the HR Adviser will support a designated department or service with HR processes including supporting change through people solutions.  They will contribute to the development of HR policies and delivery of the objectives set out in the Workforce Strategy and Workforce Plan.

The main duties of the HR Adviser are:

  • To gain a thorough understanding of the people demands in a designated Council department or service area, including any statutory frameworks, resourcing pressures, existing and future workforce needs; building relationships with managers and providing professional advice and support on HR casework and change processes.  
  • To lead from an HR perspective on designated change programme activity, supporting consultation processes and the implementation of council decisions.
  • To interpret/advise managers and employees on the appropriate application of national and local terms and conditions of service relating to employee groups of the Council.
  • To provide advice on employment law and the appropriate application of Council HR Policies.
  • To contribute to effective employee resourcing by advising on equality, diversity and inclusion, recruitment and selection policies and procedures, and options to meet future workforce needs.

  • Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,541 per annum (pro rata)
  • Permanent Part Time/Full Time post for 27.0 - 37.0 Hours per Week (to be agreed with successful candidate), 52.18 weeks per year 
  • A relocation package does not apply to this post
  • We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland
