Job Description
The Small Ports Officer, Scalloway is responsible through the appropriate manager for the day to day operation of Scalloway Harbour. The Small Ports Officer will ensure the safe and smooth operation of the Harbour and be the primary contact for harbour users. The post holder will man the harbour officeas required. The Small Ports Officer will operate a shift system/on-call to ensure 24 hour cover 7 days per week at the port.
The Small Ports Officer will carry out inspections and general maintenance of
other SIC piers and harbours.
Specific tasks of the Small Ports Officer include:
• Ensure the smooth and effective operation of the harbour and the fish market;
• Undertake general maintenance around the port and fish market;
• Support and encourage commercial development at the harbour;
• Report any incidents or maintenance requirements;
• Ensure that the port is ready to accept incoming vessels and undertake duties to enable
berthing;
• Ensure that the port is ready to handle the discharge or loading of freight, fish or livestock;

- Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4202 per hour
- 3 x Permanent Part Time posts for 201.6 Hours per Year
- The post holder will be required to take part in an on call rota.
- A relocation package does not apply to this post
- We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland
- You must have the ability to travel throughout Shetland at short notice and where public transport is limited
