The Deckhand is the person on board the workboat who performs the day-to-day seafaring duties on board and looks after the welfare of passengers. The Deckhand is under the line management of the Master and takes direction from the Mate.
The main duties of the Deckhand are: -
- Assists in the safe and effective mooring and unmooring of vessel;
- Assists in the safe berthing and slipping of vessel (including operating and maintaining the winch mechanism) in home port;
- Provides additional lookout on passage during daylight hours or darkness as required by the Master or Mate;
- Attends to the safety and welfare of passengers when carried, with a particular emphasis on any disabled or distressed passengers;

- Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.2415
- Permanent Part Time post for 31.5 Hours per Week , 52.18 weeks per year

- You must have the ability to travel throughout Shetland at short notice and where public transport is limited
