Job Description

South Ayrshire has a wealth of local heritage and culture, first class leisure amenities, world-wide travel links, diverse landscapes and thriving communities.

As a Council, we take pride in delivering services that are both efficient and progressive. But we want to do better and to continue to do better as we move in unprecedented times of financial constraints and increasing demands.

We are looking for an exceptional leader who has the vision, passion and drive to become our next Chief Executive - you will be an analytical thinker, with the ability to deliver tangible results and drive the strategic change agenda, with a focus on demonstrating innovation and ambition to help us to achieve our ambitions for South Ayrshire Council, as set out in our new Council Plan 2023-2028.

You will come to us with a background of transforming services, a determination to ensure year-on-year improvements, the financial acumen to deliver efficiencies, and the ability to work with partners to achieve joint goals.

A politically aware, decisive decision-maker, you will be an outstanding collaborative leader with excellent people and empowerment skills, with the energy and passion to operate effectively in the democratic arena and engage and motivate staff to create a high-performance organisational culture.

This is a full-time permanent position working 35 hours per week with an annual salary of £145,789 (pay award pending). Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, this post is politically restricted.

The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly between home and the office and the frequency for attending the office may vary depending on the exigencies of the service.

The selection process will take place week beginning Monday 19 June 2023.

For an informal, confidential discussion about this position, please contact Eileen Howat, Chief Executive on 01292 612612.

Closing date for applications is Tuesday 13 June 2023.
