An exciting opportunity has arisen within South Lanarkshire’s Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services for an Engineering Officer. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join our Roads Asset Management / Streetworks team.

The successful candidate will have experience in the asset management functions of a roads and transportation service, with a solid understanding of the legislation, standards and best practice that underpin effective infrastructure management. You will bring knowledge of road maintenance processes, procedures and techniques, along with strong competency in road‑related IT systems, which is essential for this role.

Our Asset Management team plays a key role in strategically managing our road assets in line with national guidance and requirements. This includes providing strategic direction to local network teams and producing key documents such as the annual Road Asset Management Plan.

Key duties include:

  • Support the delivery of an effective road asset management and Streetworks team whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant road legislation and associated Codes of Practice relating to asset management/ Streetworks activities.
  • Providing information and support for local and national programmes, projects and management reporting, including contributions to the annual Scottish Road Maintenance Condition Survey
  • Managing road‑related IT systems and supporting the implementation of new software, including future developments involving AI technology
  • Preparing the annual Road Asset Management Plan (RAMP)
  • Coordinating strategic cross‑service asset projects to improve understanding of road assets and inform maintenance strategies
  • Contributing to national benchmarking and reporting activities via APSE and SCOTS in relation to road and asset maintenance practices

You should be able to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and contribute positively as part of a wider team. A strong commitment to customer focus, industry networking and continuous improvement is essential.

A current driving licence is required, as travel throughout the Council area will be necessary.
