Location: Caldwellside Depot, Caldwellside Industrial Estate, Lanark, ML11 7SR.

The purpose of this role is to undertake chargehand duties for a designated squad or work location including all operations and associated health and safety concerns and relevant paperwork and to report directly to the Grounds Services Assistant for this area.

Undertake daily co-ordinating duties, directing staff, machinery and equipment with minimal supervision as directed to ensure successful delivery of service.

To carry out all work and associated duties according to agreed timescales, to agreed performance output targets and to a high-quality standard.

Observe and comply with Health & Safety guidelines and code of conduct policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To supervise and, where required, participate in the delivery of street cleansing and environmental maintenance duties, either individually or as part of a team.                                                                                                                   
  • This includes litter picking, manual and mechanical sweeping, fly tipping removal, graffiti removal, and uplifts etc.
  • To organise, allocate, and monitor daily workloads, ensuring all assigned routes and tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to the required standard.
  • To provide direct supervision and guidance to operational staff, including instructing crews on daily duties, monitoring performance, and addressing any issues that arise on site.
  • To operate and take responsibility for Council vehicles, plant, and equipment, ensuring they are used safely, maintained appropriately, and defects are reported in line with procedures.
  • To ensure the accurate completion of all relevant records, including route sheets, work reports, vehicle checks, and any required documentation.
  • To liaise with members of the public on site in a professional and courteous manner, responding to enquiries, resolving minor issues where possible, and reporting service requests or complaints through appropriate channels.
  • To promote and ensure compliance with Council Health and Safety procedures at all times, taking responsibility for the safety of staff, the public, and the effective delivery of services
