Work Pattern: Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 4:30pm  Friday 8:00am - 1:00pm

South Lanarkshire Council Grounds Services are seeking to recruit a skilled and motivated Grounds Mechanic to join our team based at the Strathaven Grounds Depot.

We are looking for a time-served Grounds Mechanic who has successfully completed a modern apprenticeship and holds an SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Land-Based Engineering, Horticultural Engineering, or a related discipline.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of horticultural and agricultural plant and equipment, including:

  • Fine turf and golf course machinery
  • Ride-on rotary and cylinder mowers
  • Tractors and associated implements
  • Mini excavators and dumpers
  • Handheld powered equipment
  • Pedestrian-operated machinery
  • Full UK driving licence

About the Role

As a Grounds Mechanic, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repair of a diverse fleet of grounds maintenance equipment. You will be expected to work to a high standard, ensuring machinery is maintained safely, efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out planned servicing, maintenance and repairs across the fleet
  • Diagnosing and rectifying faults in hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems
  • Conducting inspections and identifying preventative maintenance requirements
  • Maintaining accurate service and repair records
  • Supporting fleet availability to ensure operational service delivery
  • Responding to equipment breakdowns and carrying out repairs both in the workshop and on-site when required
