About the School:

Rutherglen High School is an Additional Support Needs School. It was opened in August 1999 and is a non-denominational and co-educational school. It was originally located in Reid Street in Rutherglen and moved to a shared campus with Cathkin High School and Cathkin Community Nursery in October 2008. Rutherglen High School is a one storey building and current accommodation consists of 8 classrooms and 7 specialist rooms including ICT suite, Drama room, Music room, Art room, Technical Education room, Home Economics room and Science room. There are also two gym facilities (PE hall and Multi-gym), sensory room, medical room, staffroom, management accommodation, assembly area and a hygiene room.

Within the school we have a House System and three House Groups. Rutherglen High School is a Rights Respecting School, a Health Promoting School and an Eco School. Fund raising for charity and the promotion of Fairtrade are an integral part of the school ethos. To date we have achieved level 1 of Rights Respecting School Award, Gold Award in Health Promoting Schools Award and have been awarded our 5th Green Flag.

Our Pupils

The school provides an appropriate secondary education to young people aged 11-18 with a wide range of additional support needs including Global Learning Needs, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Severe and Profound Needs. Pupils are taught in smaller class settings ( maximum 10) with allocated support staff. The current roll is 95

Our Aims

The aim of our school is to provide opportunity for all pupils to achieve their potential academically, emotionally and socially. This is achieved by providing a wide range of subjects, courses and experiences, by providing an environment in which effective learning and teaching can take place, by promoting the development of co-operative and responsible attitudes and to promote partnership with pupils, parents, staff and wide community.

Our Parents

We aim to work in partnership with parents and the wide community. The Parent Council was established in 2007 and take an active role in the life of the school.
