Who we are Lanarkshire Valuation Joint Board is an independent public authority established by The Valuation Joint Boards (Scotland) Order 1995.
What we do Provide a professional valuation and electoral registration service for both North and South Lanarkshire Council areas in respect of the compilation and maintenance of the Valuation Rolls, Valuation (Council Tax) Lists, and Register of Electors.

Although this post is advertised on a full-time basis, we do understand everyone’s circumstances are different and we would welcome applications from those who may prefer reduced hours or part-time working.
Our vision: To deliver quality in the work which we undertake, provide efficient services to all service users, and ensure completeness and accuracy of the Electoral Register, Valuation Rolls and the Valuation (Council Tax) Lists.
Who are we looking for: Applicants should be a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, with relevant experience in an Assessor’s service or equivalent experience in the land and property sector.
You should have analytical, valuation and negotiation skills alongside effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing. Well-developed literacy, numeracy and good record keeping qualities are also required. You will have a positive, professional, responsible attitude, coupled with the ability to multi-task, ensuring strict deadlines are achieved. You will have the ability to work as part of a team or individually.
You will be responsible for the survey and valuation of a wide range of property for rating purposes, the survey and valuation of domestic properties for council tax, the negotiation of proposals and appeals with council taxpayers, ratepayers and professional agents.
In addition, duties include analysis of rental transactions and devising schemes of valuation. You will also be expected to represent the Assessor at Tribunal hearings as an expert witness for both non domestic rating and council tax appeals. A full driving licence and use of a car for business purposes is essential for the role.
You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various locations within North and/or South Lanarkshire to meet the operational requirements of the service. Due to the widespread geographical nature of the area this is usually undertaken by car. You will be eligible to participate in South Lanarkshire Council’s Car Pool Scheme and it would be advantageous to have access to a vehicle for business purposes if required to travel to alternative locations.
