Description:
This is a truly exciting opportunity to become the Headteacher of a brand new non-denominational primary school being built in the area of Jackton, just on the western outskirts of the town of East Kilbride.
The area of Jackton is part of the East Kilbride Community Growth Area. The planned housing development will create initially up to 2,600 new homes and a total estimated population of up to 8,500 people.
The school is currently under construction and is expected to open in August 2023, pupil enrolment began in January 2023. We anticipate 2 or 3 classes in the first year of opening.
The school will comprise 17 mainstream classrooms and 2 general purpose areas, 4 Additional Support Needs (ASN) classrooms, separate dining and gym hall and a 7 a-side floodlit football pitch which can be utilised for community lets out with school hours.
Over time, as the roll increases, the management structure of the school will include up to 2 Depute Head Teachers and 2 Principal Teachers (part class committed).
Out with the school and under separate management, the campus will also house a new 52 week standalone early learning and childcare facility for up to 80 three/four-year olds and 15 two-year olds.
Jackton Primary School will be associated with Calderglen High School and there are another 8 associated primary schools within the learning community - Blacklaw Primary, Halfmerke Primary, Heathery Knowe Primary, Hunter Primary, Long Calderwood Primary, Maxwellton Primary, Mount Cameron Primary and Murray Primary.

GTC Registration
It is a legal requirement for any teacher teaching in a Scottish state school to be registered with GTC Scotland, General Teaching Council (Scotland) Registration.
Qualification
Holding the Standard for Headship became a prerequisite for teachers taking up their first permanent headteacher post at Local Authority and grant-aided schools in Scotland from 1 August 2020, under Section 28 of the Education (Scotland) Act 2016. Responsibilities
To make this new school a successful one, we are looking for a highly driven, enthusiastic Headteacher who can effectively lead, inspire and motivate both staff and children to ensure excellent learning and teaching within an inclusive, nurturing and supportive environment.
The curriculum should be challenging and exciting, allowing for breadth and depth of learning, while providing opportunities for all children to develop skills for learning, life and work as well as encouraging them to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. The aspiration is to provide experiences which will enable children to achieve their full potential. The school will require to build strong relationships with parents/carers to ensure the success of the school and the forging of links between school and home.
The Headteacher will be appointed in advance of the official school opening in August 2023 to allow for planning and set up. This will include the purchase of school resources, establishing connections with parents and the wider community, appointment of staff, interim parent council, school identity and transition planning for the new pupils.

We are looking to appoint a Head Teacher who is required to:
Manage the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the wider community in compliance with the requirements of the statutes relating to the provision of education and the general duty of care owed to staff and pupils.
Formulate clear aims for the school and policies to ensure their achievement within the framework of the Council’s policies.
Ensure the communication of these aims and policies to all staff, pupils, parents and other users of the school.
Act on behalf of the Council, as principal professional adviser to the Parent Council which is a separately constituted group to support parental engagement, family learning, and provide such advice and information as required, by the Parental Involvement Act 2006.
