Requirements

Social Workers within Adult and Older People's Services provide a professional service to our client groups. We would welcome applications from registered Social Workers and from Final Year Degree in Social Work Students looking to start their career as a Social Worker. Final year students must be qualified within 2 months of applying.  You will have the opportunity to access a diverse range of career development, including mental health services and senior practitioner roles.

You will work as an effective member of the team, helping us to make a positive difference in the community. You will provide an effective assessment and care management service incorporating any relevant statutory duties. You will undertake casework involving partnership working and provide professional advice and guidance to individuals, families and groups within the community.

You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills to complete all formal, informal reports and case notes which need to be of a high standard.  In addition, you should be able to demonstrate an ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds and be able to gain their trust to help them get the best from our services. You should be able to deal with a variety of situations where your tact, patience and understanding will be needed. You will need to assess and cope with these situations in a sensitive and non-judgmental way.

South Lanarkshire is well served by motorway and public transport links.  The M74 runs north to south through South Lanarkshire, and the A725, A71, A70 and A702, all running east to west, provide effective road links between the towns, villages and communities and the wider area.  These are complimented by an extensive rail network, the services from Glasgow to Hamilton, East Kilbride, Rutherglen, Cambuslang and Lanark town centres, and from Carstairs to Edinburgh. We also operate a Cycle2Work scheme, promoting healthier journeys to work for employees.

Qualifications

All applicants must be registered or in the process of registering with Scottish Social Services Council and hold Degree in Social Work qualification or equivalent. A wish for Mental Health Officer and Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Social Work (MHO) Award or equivalent is desirable.

Foreign Police Check

Candidates should be able to detail any gaps in employment and provide a foreign police check where applicable for any periods living or working abroad.
