Location: Larkhall Library, 30 Union Street, Larkhall

Hours: 35 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 9am - 5pm (1 hour unpaid break)

Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9am - 5pm (1 hour unpaid break)

Salary Band: £28,012 - £28,358 per annum (pro rata)

Duration: Fixed term until 31st March 2027

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Children’s Assistant to work at Larkhall Library. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to promote literacy and the library service to parents and carers, nurseries, schools and local organisations.

Tasks include delivering activities and events for children from 0-16 to encourage literacy development and ensuring the children’s library is attractive for families to visit. It is essential that you have an enthusiastic and flexible approach and can demonstrate an enthusiasm for books and reading.

You must have excellent communication and customer care skills and ECDL or equivalent would be preferred. Maths and English qualification to Standard Grade or Equivalent is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Promote reading and use of library services to children, young people and their families through the delivery of a range of interactive events, activities and visits.

Deliver front-line library services to children and young people in accordance with service plan targets.

Ensure an attractive environment within the children and young peoples’ areas of the library through quality stock management and a programme of creative visual displays.

Organise and develop resources, providing advice and guidance to customers to meet their identified needs.
