Job Description

This is a part-time post the salary will be pro-rata'd to the hour worked.

West Dunbartonshire Council Health & Social Care Partnership Justice Services Team are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person interested in working with people who have committed an offence. The primary role of a Community Justice Officer is to undertake a range of tasks related to the support and supervision of individuals who have offended in the community, including, however not exclusively, assessment and case management of Community Payback Orders with an Unpaid Work and Other Activity Requirement, diversionary disposals imposed by the Procurator Fiscal, Home Detention Curfews, Bail Supervision, supporting Justice Social Workers (JSWs) in relation to their statutory duties and providing a robust liaison service to Courts. These tasks will be carried out under the supervision of a Team Manager and have reference to formal assessments undertaken by CJSWs, legislative requirements, national outcomes and standards and local procedures.

You will provide direct support to service users and your contribution to team development and working in partnership are at the heart of our service delivery plan, within an integrated partnership, to ensure individuals receive a high quality, consistent and effective service that upholds local and national outcomes and standards to reduce risk and harm.

Experience of working within a social work/social care setting or equivalent is essential and HNC, SVQ3 in Social Care or equivalent being desirable. Engaging positively with individuals who have been involved with offending and their families is critical to this post, so we need someone who has excellent verbal and written communication skills. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, enthusiastic, a team player and solution focused who has the ability remain calm, work under pressure, and adhere to strict timescales. You should be able to demonstrate an interest in working in partnership with people who have been involved with offending and have an open and
non-judgmental attitude. Excellent record keeping is important so applicants require to be IT literate. Flexibility with respect to occasional requirement to work out-with normal office hours and weekends is also essential.

Requirements

his post is considered as Regulated Work with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
