Job Description

Community Justice Officer – Justice Services Team
West Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership

West Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership’s Justice Services Team is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our service, supporting people who have been involved in offending behaviour.

As a Community Justice Officer, you will play a vital role in the support and supervision of individuals within the community. Key responsibilities include the assessment and case management of Community Payback Orders (including Unpaid Work and Other Activity Requirements), alongside involvement in Diversion from Prosecution, Home Detention Curfews, and Bail Supervision. You will also support Justice Social Workers in the delivery of statutory duties, provide an effective liaison service to the Courts, assist in the supervision of statutory requirements, and contribute to the delivery of group work programmes.

Working under the guidance of a Team Manager, you will carry out your duties in line with professional assessments, legislative requirements, national outcomes and standards, and local procedures.

You will provide direct, person-centred support, contributing to the ongoing development of the service and the wider team. Our work is underpinned by partnership working and a trauma-informed approach, recognising the impact of trauma on individuals’ lives and promoting engagement that is safe, respectful and empowering. Through this approach, we aim to deliver a high-quality, consistent and effective service that supports positive outcomes while reducing risk and harm within our communities.

This role requires excellent engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with individuals and their families. We are seeking someone with strong written and verbal communication skills who is self-motivated, solution-focused, and able to remain calm under pressure while meeting demanding timescales. The ability to work collaboratively, maintain accurate records, and adopt a non-judgemental, empathetic approach is essential.

Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in community justice, partnership working, and trauma-informed practice, along with good IT skills. Flexibility is required, including occasional evening and weekend working.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Adults and Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

• A minimum of 25 days annual leave, increasing a day each year up to 35 days as well as 8 fixed public holidays each year
• Access to employee wellbeing supports including occupational health & counselling if ever you need help and support
