Job Description

This is a fixed term post until 30/06/2025.

If required you may need to work unsocial hours including evenings and weekends.

The Youth Learning Team is recruiting a (Working4U) Assistant for the operational delivery of frontline services across West Dunbartonshire. The postholder will support the development and delivery of high quality provision to young people to enhance their personal, social and educational skills, allowing them to live their life to their full potential.

If successful you will support the Youth Learning Team in developing partnerships with youth agencies to ensure effective delivery of services for our young people. The post holder will be expected to undertake sessions during unsociable hours inclusive of evenings and weekends.

The team leads on:

  • Scottish Youth Parliament - Facilitating local elections and supporting elected Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament
  • West Dunbartonshire Youth Council
  • Active Citizenship and UNCRC projects
  • Out of School Hours Learning - Community Based tutoring (support by a small team of CLD Tutors, CLD Assistants and a range of Volunteers)
  • Education Based Youth Work - Working with disengaged young people - working on barrier removal and wider achievement awards.
  • ASN School Youth Work - delivering Wider achievement awards with ASN pupils in Kilpatrick High School
  • Youth Work staff based VOLA S&FE Hub.
  • Outreach/ detached Youth Work
  • Seasonal Holiday Programmes
  • Get Up and Go - Community based ASN Youth Group (Supported by small team of P/T Youth Work Staff)
  • Weekend diversionary based activity programmes.

The Youth Learning Team is going through a period of change to reflect wider organisational decisions. There are no anticipated impacts of this on the duties of the post holder however the role profile will be updated to reflect the organisational changes.

This post is funded externally and whilst current funding is secured to end June 2025, applications to secure extended funding are ongoing.

 

 

 

 

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975.

Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Education body and removal from the Register of the General Teaching Council.
