Set for Success Intern – Trainee Coach
Are you looking for an exciting development opportunity in the sport sector? If so, this Trainee Coach internship with West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust's Active Schools team, in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust (YST), could be for you.
This is an excellent opportunity to support the Set for Success programme, funded by the Wimbledon Foundation in partnership with Barclays. Set for Success is an Athlete Mentor-led youth leadership initiative that supports young people who may be at risk of not reaching their full potential.
The role offers valuable experience in coaching, school engagement, administration and event delivery. You will develop transferable skills, build relationships with Athlete Mentors, schools and partner organisations, and play a key role in supporting young people across West Dunbartonshire.
Overall Role
- Support the delivery of the Set for Success programme across West Dunbartonshire.
- Assist the Active Schools team in delivering sport and physical activity programmes, coaching sessions and events.
Set for Success Responsibilities
- Support Athlete Mentor and teacher-led sessions in five secondary schools, including one ASN school.
- Assist lead teachers with administration related to their reporting, research and Leadership Skills Foundation awards.
- Help coordinate school visits, session resources, equipment and kit requirements.
- Attend and support local and national Set for Success events.
Active Schools Responsibilities
Working alongside Active Schools Coordinators, you will:
- Support the delivery of coaching sessions in schools and community venues.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of events, programmes and activities.
- Contribute to increasing opportunities for young people to participate in sport and physical activity.
General Responsibilities
- Follow safeguarding policies and report concerns appropriately.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the role.
- Adhere to data protection, information security, health and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting systems.
- Represent and uphold the values of the Youth Sport Trust and West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the post.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will be a strong team player and possess excellent communication and effective organisational skills. You will be able to manage competing priorities and have the confidence to use your initiative when required to adapt to different school environments. The role requires travel between schools and community locations.
What We Offer
In return, you will join two organisations committed to improving the lives of young people through sport and physical activity. You will gain valuable experience, receive support from experienced professionals, and enjoy a rewarding role that offers challenge, development and the opportunity to make a real difference.
If you share our passion for helping young people achieve their potential through sport and physical activity, we would love to hear from you.
