West Lothian Council’s Housing, Customer and Building Services department are currently offering challenging yet exciting opportunities for individuals to gain a Modern Apprenticeship.

We are looking to take willing and dedicated individuals (males and females) on a four year long learning journey which will bring together a structured college programme with work-based activities.

An Apprentice Electrician will assist an experienced trades person to deliver a high-quality service whilst focusing on the needs of the customer and delivering excellent levels of customer care.

Modern Apprentices will be expected to achieve the SVQ in the relevant subjects and should be able to demonstrate the confidence and commitment to meet the challenge of combining “on the job” training with their college studies.

Applicants must have good communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of customer service, and the ability to work as part of a team. They will require to balance the workplace demands with college learning and be comfortable to work at height, i.e. up scaffolding, up ladders, in lofts etc.

West Lothian Council are committed to far reaching changes to the way we deliver our Education Services. These changes include giving you the support and environment that you need to get on with your job and develop your abilities. Our dedication is demonstrated by the whole council achievement of the Investors in People Standard and always aiming a little higher in our service delivery and improvements.

Successful applicants will have achieved, or be working towards, National 4 or above (or the equivalent) in English and Maths. You will also require National 4 or above (or the equivalent) in Physics or another technical subject.

The recruitment process will include candidates passing the industry entrance exam (S.E.C.T.T. test) as well as being invited to attend a practical assessment and a face to face interview.

Please note that due to the expected high number of applicants it will take us a minimum of 2 weeks to review applications.

Testing and interviews are expected to take place between late May – July.
